Women's Basketball - St. Olaf 84, Augsburg 78

MINNEAPOLIS -- In spite of Rachael Ekholm's (Fr., Richfield, Minn.) school single-game record seven 3-point baskets, her Augsburg College women's basketball team surrendered a lead late in the game as St. Olaf College rallied for an 84-78 win in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Friday night at Si Melby Hall.

Ekholm led all scorers with 25 points in the game, adding three assists and two steals before fouling out with 32 seconds left to play. Ekholm's seven 3-pointers broke the old single-game record of five, set five different times by three Auggie players over the past eight seasons. Augsburg also tied a single-game team record with nine 3-point baskets in the game. The record tied a team mark set in a 1993-94 game against Hamline.

Augsburg, which led 23-11 at one point in the first half and 44-32 at halftime, slowly surrendered the lead to the Oles. An 8-0 run midway through the second half gave St. Olaf its first lead of the game, at 70-69, with 7:13 remaining.The two teams traded baskets, until the Oles eventually pulled ahead by five points with under three minutes to play.

Augsburg finished its season with a 3-22 overall record and 3-19 mark in the MIAC, while St. Olaf, which is in contention for an NCAA Division III playoff berth, finishes the regular season 19-6 overall and 18-4 in the MIAC.

Ann Schultz (Sr., Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) was one of three Oles to score in double figures, with 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Natalie Siefer (Sr., Storm Lake, Iowa) had 18 points and nine rebounds, while Nicole Trnka had 10 points.

Jill Ruprecht (Sr., Glendale, Wis./Nicolet HS), playing in her final game, had 20 points for the Auggies. She ended her career with 672 career points and 271 rebounds in 63 games as an Auggie. Liz Meskan (So., New Prague, Minn.) had 10 points.
