Women's Basketball --Augsburg 52, Macalester 39
MINNEAPOLIS (1/10/00) --
Rachael Ekholm (Sr., Richfield, Minn.) hit four 3-pointers and scored 13 points to lead Augsburg College to its second win in a row, a 52-39 triumph over Macalester College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Monday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
Augsburg improves to 3-7 overall and 3-4 in the MIAC, while Macalester drops to 1-8 overall and 1-6 in the MIAC.
Ekholm hit three of her three-pointers in the first half as Augsburg built a 28-24 halftime lead, rallying from an early 15-8 deficit. The Auggies pulled away in the second half, using a late 9-2 run to lead by as many as 15 points in the final three minutes of the game.
Adrienne Tietz (Sr., Shakopee, Minn./Monticello HS) had 10 points, eight rebounds and four steals for the Auggies, while
Jaime Kingsley (Jr., Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) had 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Jodi Soule (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn.),
Betsy Gessell (So., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) and
Allison Illa (So., Cannon Falls, Minn.) had six points apiece.
Nora Anderson (Sr., Bloomington, Minn./Blake School) paced the Scots with 13 points, five rebounds, three steals and three assists. Karen Martin (Sr., Westford, Mass./Acton-Boxborough HS) had seven points and six rebounds, and Melissa Colbert (So., Amherst, Mass.) had seven points.
Kate Stebbins (Sr., North Bend, Ore.) had three blocked shots and seven rebounds for the Scots, while Sarah Hesch (Fr., Burnsville, Minn./Rabat American School) had six points and 13 rebounds.
Augsburg plays at St. Benedict on Wednesday (1/10), while Macalester plays at Gustavus. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
