Men's Basketball --Augsburg 84, St. John's 80
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/15/00) -- Kevin Van Rossum (Sr., Green Bay, Wis./Preble HS) claimed Augsburg College's school record for career three-pointers by hitting four extra-pointers for 12 points in Augsburg's 75-64 men's basketball win at St. Olaf College on Saturday.
Van Rossum now has 189 in his career, breaking the old mark of 185 set by Scott Syring from 1989 to 1993.
With the win, Augsburg improves to 8-3 overall and 7-1 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, holding a share of the league lead with St. John's (11-1 overall, 7-1 MIAC). St. John's drops to 1-11 overall and 1-7 in the league.
Augsburg rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit, 42-30, with a 45-22 second-half outburst.
Matt Davis (Jr., Marshall, Minn.), a junior transfer from Fergus Falls (Minn.) Community College, paced the Auggies with his top scoring performance this season, with 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. He added four rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. Jeoffrey Reed (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./De La Salle HS) had 15 points, a team-high seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Matt Hofkens (So., Neenah, Wis.) led all players with 30 points and eight rebounds for the Oles. Hofkens went 9-of-9 from the free-throw line. Mike Ludwig (Fr., Blaine, Minn.) added 14 points.
Augsburg hosts Carleton on Monday (1/17), while St. Olaf hosts Hamline. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
