Game Summary:
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (1/15/00) --
Chris McLeod (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz./Sunnyslope HS) tied the game on a power-play goal with 5:09 remaining to give Augsburg College a 5-5 overtime tie with host St. John's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey contest Saturday afternoon at the National Hockey Center.
Augsburg improves to 4-8-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the MIAC with the draw, while St. John's moves to 8-7-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the MIAC.
Augsburg rallied from a 5-4 deficit to claim the win, with its final three goals coming on the power play. Joe Johnson (So., Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) and Brad Schwartzbauer (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had the other power-play tallies before McLeod's game-decider.
Tony Putt (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) and Jeffrey Arndt (Jr., Hugo, Minn./Forest Lake HS) had the other goals for the Auggies, with Steve LaMere (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) and Jaroslav Cesky (Fr., Prague, Czech Republic/New Prague, Minn., HS) adding two assists apiece.
Mike Fiero had a goal and assist for the Johnnies, while Jake Froiland had three assists. Other Johnnie goals came from Corey Huck, Adam Briggle, Chad Helmer and Peter Edlund.
St. John's outshot Augsburg 35-25. Ryan McIntosh (Jr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) made 30 saves for the Auggies, and Adam Laaksonen, making his first game appearance for the Johnnies after playing junior hockey, made 20 saves in goal for the Johnnies.
Augsburg faces Gustavus in a two-game MIAC series Friday and Saturday (1/21-22, Friday at Gustavus, Saturday at Augsburg), while St. John's has the weekend off and returns Jan. 28-29 with a two-game series against Gustavus.
