Women's Basketball --Augsburg 68, St. Olaf 65
MINNEAPOLIS (1/15/00) -- Rallying from an early 14-2 deficit, the Augsburg College women's basketball team claimed a 68-65 victory over visiting St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
With the victory, Augsburg improves to 4-8 overall and 4-5 in the MIAC. The win is Augsburg's third in its last four games and gives the team more victories than last season's 3-22 club. St. Olaf drops to 3-9 overall and 3-6 in the MIAC.
Jodi Soule (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) led the Auggies with 17 points and three assists.
Adrienne Tietz (Sr., Shakopee, Minn./Monticello HS) had 15 points and nine rebounds.
Rachael Ekholm (So., Richfield, Minn.) scored 14 points and had seven assists and two steals. Ekholm hit four 3-pointers for the third straight game.
Allison Illa (So., Cannon Falls, Minn.) added eight points.
St. Olaf scored the first nine points of the ballgame, not allowing an Auggie point until the 14:36 mark of the first half. The Auggies slowly rallied to trail 32-28 at halftime, then took their first lead on a Tietz field goal at the 16:28 mark of the second half, 37-36. Augsburg later used a 9-0 run to take a seven-point lead, but St. Olaf cut the lead again and the teams traded leads the rest of the way.
Alicia Harrison (Sr., Wichita, Kan./Wichita East HS) led the Oles with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Liz Mundahl (Fr., Eagan, Minn.) scored 12 points, and Elisa Hatlevig (Jr., Rushford, Minn./Rushford-Peterson HS) had nine points and 10 rebounds. Liz Woodrow (So., Aitkin, Minn.) also had nine points.
Augsburg plays at Carleton on Monday (1/17), while St. Olaf plays at Hamline. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
