Women's Basketball -- St. Mary's 71, Augsburg 60
MINNEAPOLIS (1/3/00) -- Kelly Gleason (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.) scored 13 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead St. Mary's University in a 71-60 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball contest Monday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
Low-post mate Shannon McCluskey (So., Maplewood, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) came off the bench to add 10 points for the Cardinals, who improve to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC. Augsburg drops to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the MIAC.
A 24-9 run over the final 13 minutes of the first half enabled St. Mary's to overcome a 13-12 early deficit to the Auggies. The Cardinals led 36-22 at halftime.
St. Mary's led by as many as 20 points in the contest before Augsburg cut the lead to its 11-point final margin late in the game.
Jenny Long (Jr., Westmont, Ill./Montini HS) and Jenny Gilles (Fr., Keizer, Ore./Regis HS) added nine points apiece for St. Mary's, while Elizabeth Ori (Jr., Deerfield, Ill.) had eight points.
Augsburg was paced by
Jaime Kingsley (Jr., Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS), who had her second straight double-double, with 10 points and 14 rebounds. She added four steals and three blocked shots.
Jodi Soule (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) had 12 points, five rebounds and four steals for the Auggies.
Rachael Ekholm (So., Richfield, Minn.) and
Allison Illa (So., Cannon Falls, Minn.) each contributed eight points, with Illa adding six rebounds.
Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday night with a game at St. Thomas, while St. Mary's hosts St. Olaf. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
