Game Summary:
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (1/7/00) -- Lake Forest College held off a furious third-period Augsburg College rally Friday night, claiming a 4-3 victory in a nonconference men's hockey game at Lake Forest's Alumnae Memorial Fieldhouse.
The Foresters (8-5-0 overall) led 4-0 after two periods, thanks to first-period goals from Scott McClure (Jr., Calgary, Alberta) and James Austin (Jr., Burlington, Ontario), and second-period goals from Ben Wellenbach (So., Acton, Mass.) and Jeff Guiney (Jr., Big Rapids, Mich.).
But Augsburg (4-6-2 overall) stormed back in the third period, scoring three goals in a 3:21 stretch midway through the final frame.
Jaroslav Cesky (Jr., Prague, Czech Republic/New Prague, Minn., HS),
Brad Schwartzbauer (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) and
Nicholas Murray (So., Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had goals for the Auggies. Schwartzbauer added an assist for a two-point night.
Justin Howard (Jr., Burlington, Ontario) made 26 saves to earn the win in goal for Lake Forest, while
Ryan McIntosh (Jr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) made 22 saves in a losing effort.
Augsburg completes its stretch of games against Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opponents on Saturday (1/8), with a game at St. Norbert (Wis.).
