Men's Hockey 11/10/00 -- Air Force Academy 4, Augsburg 1
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (11/11/00) -- Pounding out 41 shots on goal to the visitor's 14, the Air Force Academy dominated in a 4-1 victory over Augsburg College in a nonconference men's hockey game Friday night before 1,309 fans at the Cadet Ice Arena.
Air Force, a Division I member of the College Hockey America conference, improves to 5-3-1 overall. Augsburg, a Division III member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, drops to 1-2-0 overall. This is the first game of a two-game weekend series. The second game will be held Sunday (11/12) at 1 p.m. at the Cadet Ice Arena.
Scott Zwiers (So., Naperville, Ill.) had a goal and assist for the Falcons, as his first line figured in three of the four Falcon goals in the game. Brian Gornick (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.), on the wing on Zwiers' line, had two assists.
Billy O'Reilly (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) and Spanky Leonard (Fr., Elk River, Minn.) had the other Air Force goals.
Augsburg's lone goal came on a power-play tally from
Jaro Cesky (So., Prague, Czech Republic) in the second period on an assist from
Matt Krengel (Fr., Shoreview, Minn./Hill-Murray HS).
Ryan McIntosh (Sr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) faced 41 Air Force shots and made 37 saves in the net for the Auggies. Marc Kielkucki (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) had a relatively easier night, making just 13 saves to pick up the Falcons' win.
