MINNEAPOLIS (11/17/00) -- Jacquelle Sevigny (Fr., Moorhead, Minn.) stopped all 27 shots she faced to claim the shutout win in goal, and Mahrya Horner (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) had two goals and an assist to lead the College of St. Catherine to a 3-0 shutout of host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women'shockey game Friday night at Augsburg Ice Arena.
With the win, St. Catherine improves to 2-0 overall, while Augsburg drops to 0-2 overall. It was the first MIAC game for both teams. The win was St. Catherine's first-ever over Augsburg in five attempts over the past three seasons. It also marked Augsburg's first-ever home shutout loss to an NCAA Division III opponent in its six seasons of varsity hockey, and only the team's seventh home shutout loss overall. All the previous losses were to Division I or adult amateur opponents.
St. Catherine has yet to give up a goal in its two wins this week. The Wildcats shut out Wisconsin-Eau Claire 9-0 on Wednesday.
Kim Hayes (So., South St. Paul, Minn.) opened the scoring at the 9:32 mark, with assists to Honer and Courtney Adney (So., St. Paul, Minn.). Honer scored both her goals in a six-minute span in the second period, an unassisted tally at the 11:09 mark, and a power-play goal from Adney and Hayes at the 17:49 mark.
Augsburg outshot St. Catherine by a 27-24 margin. Sevigny stopped all 27 shots for the shutout win, while
Jodi Winters (So., Little Canada, Minn./Roseville Area HS) made 21 saves in a losing effort.
Augsburg and St. Catherine finish the MIAC series on Saturday (11/18) at 7:15 p.m. at St. Catherine's home rink, Drake Ice Arena in St. Paul, Minn.
