Volleyball 11/3-4/00 -- Augsburg at MIAC Tournament
WINONA, Minn. (11/4/00) -- Augsburg College split its two matches in competition at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament at St. Mary's University on Friday and Saturday, dropping its opening match to Gustavus Adolphus in five games on Friday, then coming back to finish the season with a five-game win over the College of St. Catherine on Saturday.
Augsburg finishes its season 11-16 overall, the second season in a row with 11 victories.
After winning the first two games against Gustavus, the Gusties came back to capture the Friday-evening match. Game scores were 9-15, 11-15, 15-13, 15-10, 15-12.
Cassi Van Ausdall (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) paced the Auggies with 16 kills and 21 digs, her 15th "double-double" of the season.
Lisa Miller (So., Buffalo, Minn.) had 14 kills and a team-high six blocks (three solo), and
Angie Rieger (Sr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm Public HS) had 10 kills, 16 digs and four blocks (two solo).
Kevina Nakiwala (So., Kampala, Uganda/Ashby, Minn., HS) notched nine kills and three blocks (one solo), while
Paula Pogatchnik (So., Finlayson, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) recorded eight kills and four blocks (one solo).
Emily Walen (Sr., Stillwater, Minn./Hastings HS) had 51 assists, 13 digs and eight kills.
On Saturday, Augsburg used 12 players in the match against St. Catherine, rallying back from a 2-0 deficit to claim the season-ending win. Game scores were 2-15, 9-15, 15-5, 15-4, 15-12.
Van Ausdall closed her career with double-double No. 16 of the season, with 10 kills, 10 digs and three blocks (two solo). Pogatchnik, Nakiwala and Miller had six kills apiece, with Nakiwala and Miller adding three blocks each. Rieger had five kills and five blocks (one solo), and Walen contributed 22 assists and four blocks (one solo).
