Women's Basketball 12/19/00 -- Augsburg 69, Cazenovia (N.Y.) 57
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (12/19/00) --
Kelly Chapman (Fr., Willernie, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) led a balanced Augsburg College scoring attack with 12 points, and three players had 10 or more rebounds as the Auggies claimed their second victory in a row with a 69-57 victory over Cazenovia College (N.Y.) in a nonconference women's basketball game Tuesday afternoon at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas McDermott Sports Complex.
The game was a tier semifinal contest in the Adidas Desert Shootout tournament, hosted at UNLV. The tournament features numerous four-team tiers, paired together based on previous season records. Augsburg improved to 2-4 overall with the win and will play in the tier final against Bluffton (Ohio) on Wednesday (12/20) at 1:15 p.m. Cazenovia will play Peace (N.C.) in the third-place game at 11 a.m. Bluffton topped Peace 70-46 in the other tier semifinal Tuesday.
Nine of the 10 Auggies who saw action in the game scored, as the Auggies pulled out to a 33-24 halftime advantage and maintained the lead for the victory.
Three Auggies had 10 or more rebounds, as the Auggies outrebounded the Wildcats by a 53-46 margin.
Carrie Schwartz (Jr., Hutchinson, Minn.) had 12 rebounds and eight points,
Jaime Kingsley (Sr., Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) had 12 rebounds and five points, and
Allison Illa (Jr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) had eight points and 10 rebounds.
Rachael Ekholm (Jr., Richfield, Minn.) scored nine points for the Augges, while
Erin Brockberg (Sr., Pipestone, Minn./Pipestone-Jasper HS) had eight points.
Cazenovia was paced by Tiffany Trent (Fr., Riverhead, N.Y.), who scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Val Titus (Sr., Greene, N.Y.) had 13 points, Jessica Heidt (Sr., Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon HS) had 10 points and Meghan Davis (Sr., Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran HS) had a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
