Mike Jackson (Sr., Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) the game-winning goal with 1:21 left in regulation and
Jaro Cesky (So., Prague, Czech Republic) made it stand up with an empty-net goal in the final seconds, as Augsburg College claimed a 4-2 victory over host St. John's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game Saturday afternoon at the National Hockey Center.
With the victory, the Auggies earn a split of the two-game MIAC series with the Johnnies and move to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in league play. St. John's drops to 3-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the MIAC. Despite being outshot by a 39-29 margin, the Auggies were still able to claim the victory.
Augsburg had a 2-1 lead after two periods, but Bill Birrenkott, who had won the Friday night contest (4-3) on an overtime goal, tied the game on a power-play goal early in the third period.
Tim Olsen (Fr., Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) notched his team-leading seventh goal of the season on he power-pay for the Auggies, tying the game at 1-1 midway through the second period.
Brad Holzinger (So., North Oaks, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) put the Auggies ahead 2-1 late in the second period.
Bryan Talbot (So., Anoka, Minn.) had the first Johnnie goal in the game.
Ryan McIntosh (Sr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) made 37 saves to claim the victory in goal for the Auggies.
