Game Summary:
MINNEAPOLIS (2/12/00) --
Steve LaMere (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) and
Jaroslav Cesky (Fr., Prague, Czech Republic) had two goals apiece Saturday, rallying Augsburg College past St. Mary's University 4-2 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game at Augsburg Ice Arena.
With the win, the Auggies complete the weekend sweep and improve to 9-10-4 overall and 7-4-3 in the MIAC. St. Mary's drops to 8-13-2 overall, 3-10-1 in the MIAC.
Cesky's two goals, coming in a 2:40 span midway through the second period, tied the game at 2-2 and gave him a team-high 12 goals this season. Cesky added an assist for a three-point night.
LaMere, who transferred to Augsburg after the 1996-97 season from St. Mary's, scored the last two goals to give him a five-goal, six-point weekend. He had a natural hat trick and an assist in Friday's 10-1 Augsburg win at St. Mary's.
Chris McLeod (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz./Sunnyslope HS) had three assists for the Auggies.
Denny O'Connor (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) and Kevin Mackey (Sr., Palos Hills, Ill.) scored for the Cardinals in the second period.
Ryan McIntosh (Jr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) made 32 saves to notch the win in goal for Augsburg, while Eric Richardson (So., Skokie, Ill.), making his first appearance in goal for the Cardinals, stopped 29 shots in a losing effort.
Augsburg, in sole possession of third place in the MIAC with 17 points, closes out the regular season with a two-game series against St. Olaf Friday and Saturday (2/18-19). Friday's game is at Augsburg and Saturday's is at St. Olaf, both at 7:05 p.m. St. Mary's closes out the season with a two-game series against St. John's. Both games are at St. Mary's, Friday's game at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday's game at 2:05 p.m.
