Game Summary:
MINNEAPOLIS (2/12/00) -- For the second consecutive night,
Angie Rieger (Jr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm Public HS) scored a three-goal hat trick to lead Augsburg College to a win, as the Auggies claimed a 7-0 win over the University of St. Thomas in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Saturday night at St. Thomas' home rink, the Parade Ice Arena.
Rieger added an assist for a four-point night on Saturday. Combined with a three-goal, two assist performance in Friday's 7-6 win over the Tommies, Rieger, a two-time All-American, had a nine-point weekend against the Tommies. Rieger notched her school-record third hat trick of the season (and fourth of her career) in Saturday's performance, giving her team highs of of 21 goals and 15 assists (36 points) this season.
Augsburg improves to 14-5-0 overall and 9-1-0 in the MIAC, while St. Thomas drops to 10-7-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the MIAC.
Rieger's first goal was a power-play goal 12 minutes into the contest. Her other two goals came in the third period, including a goal just nine seconds after assisting on a goal by
Annie Simons (Sr., South St. Paul, Minn.). Simons had a goal and two assists in the contest.
Stephanie Johnson (Jr., Champlin, Minn./Anoka HS) and
April Leger (So., Austin, Minn.) each had a goal and assist for the Auggies in the second period.
Amber Nadreau (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Christian HS) added an unassisted goal for Augsburg.
Augsburg outshot St. Thomas by a 48-13 margin in the game.
Meg Schmidt (Sr., West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) notched her school-record fourth shutout of the season in goal. Karissa Stapf (Fr., Burnsville, Minn.) made 34 saves and allowed seven goals to take the loss for the Tommies, before being relieved by Jill Janikowski (Fr., Burnsville, Minn.).
Augsburg hosts St. Mary's, currently unbeaten in the MIAC, in a weekend series Saturday (2/19 at Augsburg, 2:05 p.m.) and Sunday (2/20 at St. Mary's, 2:05 p.m.), while St. Thomas has a two-game series with St. Benedict Friday (2/18 at Parade Ice Arena, 7:30 p.m.) and Saturday (2/19 at River-Lakes Arena, Richmond, Minn., 3 p.m.).
