Game Summary:
MINNEAPOLIS (2/18/00) -- Playing in his final regular-season home game at Augsburg Ice Arena,
Steve LaMere (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) scored two goals, leading Augsburg College to a 5-2 victory over St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Friday night.
With the win, combined with St. Mary's 5-4 win over St. John's on Friday, Augsburg (10-10-4 overall, 8-4-3 MIAC) clinches third place in the MIAC standings. St. Olaf (11-12-2 overall, 5-8-2 MIAC) was eliminated from postseason play with the loss. St. Thomas beat Bethel 5-2 on Friday, clinching the first seed in the playoffs and eliminating Bethel from postseason play.
Augsburg will play at Concordia-Moorhead in a MIAC playoff semifinal series (two-game/minigame) next Friday and Saturday (2/25-26) in Moorhead, Minn. Both games will be at 7 p.m. St. John's will play at St. Thomas in the other MIAC playoff semifinal series on Sunday (2/27) at 3 p.m. and Monday (2/28) at 7 p.m. at the State Fair Coliseum in St. Paul, Minn.
LaMere notched his two goals, giving him 10 on the season, in a 57-second span bracketing the final minute of the second period and the first minute of the third.
Jaroslav Cesky (Fr., Prague, Czech Republic) had a goal and assist for the Auggies, giving him team highs of 13 goals and 32 points.
Chad Moore (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) notched his first collegiate goal to open the game for Augsburg.
Kris Arro (Sr., Etobicoke, Ont./Scarlett Heights Collegiate HS) scored the other Auggie goal.
Brad Schwartzbauer (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had two assists in the game.
Jason Haider (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) and Tim Legreid (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) scored goals for St. Olaf.
Ryan McIntosh (Jr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) made 26 saves to pick up the win in the nets for Augsburg, while P.T. Haider (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) stopped 30 shots in a losing effort.
Augsburg and St. Olaf close the regular season with the final game of the series on Saturday evening (2/19) at 7:05 p.m. at the Northfield Ice Arena in Northfield, Minn.
