Game Summary:
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (2/19/00) -- Jeff Simison (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal 58 seconds into overtime Saturday, lifting host St. Olaf College to a 3-2 victory over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game at the Northfield Ice Arena.
Simison scored a goal and had two assists, as the Oles finished its season at 12-12-2 overall, 6-8-2 in the MIAC.
Despite the loss, Augsburg (10-11-4 overall, 8-5-3 MIAC) finished the regular season in third place in the MIAC standings. Augsburg will play at Concordia-Moorhead in a MIAC playoff semifinal series (two-game/minigame) next Friday and Saturday (2/25-26) in Moorhead, Minn. Both games will be at 7 p.m. St. John's will play at St. Thomas in the other MIAC playoff semifinal series on Sunday (2/27) at 3 p.m. and Monday (2/28) at 7 p.m. at the State Fair Coliseum in St. Paul, Minn.
Jake Johnston (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) and Jason Haider (Jr.,. Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) had a goal and assist each. Tim Legreid (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) had two assists for the Oles.
Augsburg notched two first-period goals and took a 2-1 lead into the third period, before St. Olaf tied the game.
Jaroslav Cesky (Fr., Prague, Czech Republic) and
Andy Ness (Jr., North St. Paul, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) scored for the Auggies, with
Brad Holzinger (Fr., North Oaks, Minn../Hill-Murray HS) adding two assists.
P.T. Haider (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) made 28 saves to pick up the win in goal for the Oles.
Ryan McIntosh (Jr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) made 30 saves in a losing effort.
