Volleyball 9/13/00 -- Concordia-Moorhead 3, Augsburg 1
MINNEAPOLIS (9/13/00) -- Sam Scariano (Sr., Billings, Mont.) led all players with 18 kills and seven blocks (two solo) as Concordia College-Moorhead rallied from a first-game loss to claim a 3-1 game victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's volleyball match Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.
Game scores were 10-15, 15-9, 15-12, 15-4 in favor of Concordia. The Cobbers improve to 5-1 overall with their fourth straight match victory. Augsburg drops to 2-7 overall. The match was the first in MIAC play for both teams this season.
Scariano paced a dominant Cobber attack, as four players accumulated more than 10 kills in the match. Katrina Wilberts (So., Breckenridge, Minn.) and Stacy Davis (Sr., Wadena, Minn.) had 13 kills each (Wilberts on just 17 attempts with only two errors), and Kristy Anderson (Jr., Willmar, Minn.) had 10.
Augsburg was paced by
Angie Rieger (Sr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm Public HS), who had 15 kills and 11 digs, and
Cassi Van Ausdall (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.), who had 14 kills and 34 digs.
Jessica Norman (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) had 14 digs, and
Emily Walen (Sr., Stillwater, Minn./Hastings HS) had 44 assists and 16 digs.
Leah Sanden (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D./Luverne, Minn., HS) had 49 assists and 12 digs for the Cobbers. Anderson had 14 digs and Scariano had 12 digs. Sarah Russell (So., Fargo, N.D./Oak Grove HS) notched 17 digs and Beth Clarke (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had 16. Wilberts added six blocks (two solo).
Augsburg plays at St. Benedict in its next match next Wednesday (9/20) at 7:30 p.m., while Concordia competes at the St. Benedict Holiday Inn-Vitational Friday and Saturday before returning to conference play with a home match against Macalester next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
