Women's Basketball 1/10/01 -- Augsburg 90, St. Catherine 83 (OT)
ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/10/01) --
Rachael Ekholm's (Jr., Richfield, Minn.) 15 points led five Augsburg College players scoring in double figures Wednesday night, as the Auggies claimed a 90-83 overtime victory over the host College of St. Catherine in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game at the Butler Center.
Augsburg led 40-34 at halftime, but the Wildcats stormed back to tie the game at 78-78 and force overtime. Augsburg outscored the hosts 12-5 in the extra session to improve to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in MIAC play. St. Catherine drops to 0-9 overall and 0-6 in the MIAC.
After an 0-4 start to the season, Augsburg has won five of its last six games, the last four wins all coming in road contests. Augsburg won just twice away from home last year in its 6-19 finish.
Ten of the 12 Auggies who saw game action scored in the contest.
Jaime Kingsley (Sr., Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) had 14 points and seven rebounds,
Jennie LaManna (Jr., South St. Paul, Minn.) had 13 points and five rebounds,
Kelly Chapman (Fr., Willernie, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) had 12 points and eight rebounds and
Allison Illa (Jr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) notched 10 points and eight rebounds.
Carrie Schwartz (Jr., Hutchinson, Minn.) notched nine points and five rebounds.
St. Catherine was paced by Kate Stodolka (Fr., Coon Rapids, Minn.), who led all scorers with 22 points, and Patty Bredemus (Fr., Coon Rapids, Minn.), who scored 19 points, hitting 11-of-12 from the free-throw line. Renae Bebler (Jr., Wells, Minn.) scored 16 points and Katie Jones (Fr., Alpha, Minn.) had eight points and 12 rebounds.
Both teams return to action on Saturday (1/13) at 3 p.m., Augsburg playing at St. Benedict and St. Catherine playing at Gustavus.
