Men's Hockey 1/13/01 -- Gustavus Adolphus 3, Augsburg 3 (OT)
ST. PETER, Minn. (1/13/01) -- Adam Moseley (So., Orono, Minn.) scored two third-period goals to rally Gustavus Adolphus College for a 3-3 overtime tie with Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game Saturday night at the Don Roberts Ice Rink.
With the tie, Gustavus took three of the four points in the series and moved to 4-8-3 overall and 2-4-2 in MIAC play. Augsburg moved to 5-8-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the MIAC.
Augsburg held a 2-0 lead after two periods, thanks to goals from
Andy Ness (Sr., North St. Paul, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) and
Mike Jackson (Sr., Ramsey, Minn./Elk River HS). Moseley scored his first goal of the game on the power play at the 5:03 mark of the third period, and Aaron Allar (So., Minnetonka, Minn.) tied the game on a goal at the 10:22 mark. Fourteen seconds later, Andy Shermoen (Sr., International Falls, Minn.) gave the Auggies the lead back with his third goal of the season. But with 5:42 remaining in regulation, Moseley scored his second goal of the game to tie the contest at 3-3.
Both teams had 34 shots on goal in the game. Augsburg outshot Gustavus 3-0 in the overtime session, despite playing shorthanded on a penalty during the first half of the overtime. Gustavus goalie Dan Melde (Fr., Maplewood, Minn.) and Augsburg goalie
Ryan McIntosh (Sr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) had 31 saves each.
Both teams have Friday-Saturday (1/19-20) MIAC series coming up. Augsburg hosts league-leader Concordia-Moorhead on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m., both games at Augsburg Ice Arena. Gustavus faces St. John's, Friday at Gustavus at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
