Women's Basketball 1/13/01 -- St. Benedict 86, Augsburg 50
ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (1/13/01) -- Michelle Barlau (So., Northfield, Minn.) scored 15 points to lead five College of St. Benedict players scoring in double figures, as the host Blazers rolled over Augsburg College 86-50 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at CSB's Claire Lynch Hall.
The Blazers forced 23 Augsburg turnovers in running their conference-leading record to 9-1 overall and 8-0 in the MIAC. Augsburg drops to 5-6 overall and 3-5 in MIAC play.
St. Benedict hit nearly 50 percent from the field (33-of-67) in the game and led 41-20 at halftime. Augsburg was limited to just 35.2 percent (19-of-54) shooting from the field in the contest.
Barlau added six steals to aid the Blazer cause. All 15 players on the St. Benedict varsity roster saw action in the game, and 12 players scored. Andrea Bennett (So., Sandstone, Minn./East Central HS) scored 12 points, Mia Peterson (Jr., Swatara, Minn./Northland-Remer HS) had 11 and Jill Pogdorski (Fr., Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Allison Clark (So., Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township HS) had 10 points each. Jackie Bye (So., West St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) led the Blazers with eight rebounds.
Augsburg was paced by
Jaime Kingsley (Sr., Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS), who scored 20 points and had seven rebounds and a blocked shot.
Kelly Chapman (Fr., Willernie, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) notched eight points and
Liz Meskan (Jr., New Prague, Minn.) had five points.
Augsburg returns to action on Monday (1/15), hosting St. Olaf at 7:30 p.m. at Si Melby Hall. St. Benedict hosts Concordia-Moorhead on Wednesday (1/17) at 7:30 p.m.
