Men's Hockey 1/26/01 -- Augsburg 7, Hamline 5

Jaro Cesky (So., Prague, Czech Republic) and
Tim Olsen (Fr., Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) scored two goals apiece, as Augsburg College built a 7-2 second-period lead and held on for a 7-5 victory over Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game Friday night at the State Fair Coliseum.
Olsen added two assists for a four-point night as Augsburg improved to 7-9-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the MIAC with the victory. Hamline dropped to 9-9 overall and 2-7 in the MIAC.
Tied at 2-2 after one period on goals from Olsen and Cesky, the Auggies sprinted to a 7-2 advantage, scoring five goals in the second period. Augsburg scored three goals in the first 2:27, from
Nick Murray (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels HS),
Andy Ness (Sr., North St. Paul, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) and Cesky. Andy Shermoen (Sr., International Falls, Minn.) and Olsen had the other Auggies goals in the frame.
But Hamline scored three goals in a wild third period to make the game close. Graham Plumhoff (Fr., Rochester, Minn.), Mike Johnson (Fr., Grand Forks, N.D.) and Troy Urdahl (Sr., Litchfield, Minn.) had the Piper goals. Urdahl had two goals for the Pipers, with Troy Kleven (So., Crookston, Minn.) adding the other Piper goal.
Shermoen had a goal and two assists for a three-point night for the Auggies, while Murray and Ness added assists for two-point nights each.
Jake Wegscheider (Jr., Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) and
Brad Holzinger (So., North Oaks, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) had two assists apiece.
Brice Parks (So., Eagle River, Alaska), Perry Smiley (So., Bovey, Minn.) and Donovan Meade (Sr., Bloomington, Minn.) had two assists apiece for the Pipers.

Ryan McIntosh (Sr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) notched 29 saves to score the victory.
The teams close their two-game MIAC series on Saturday (1/27) at 7 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
