ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/3/01) --
Jennie LaManna (Jr., South St. Paul, Minn.) scored a career-high 18 points and
Erin Brockberg (Sr., Pipestone, Minn./Pipestone-Jasper HS) notched 16 points, seven steals and six assists Wednesday night, leading Augsburg Colleg e to its fourth victory in a row, a 72-59 triumph over host Macalester College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game at the Macalester Gymnasium.
Augsburg improves to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in MIAC play with the victory, while Macalester drops to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the MIAC with its fourth straight loss.
LaManna had a sparkling shooting night for her 18 points, connecting on seven of her eight field-goal attempts and four of her five free throws. She also had five rebounds. As a team, Augsburg nailed 46.5 percent of its field goals (27-of-58), including a sterling 62.1 percent (18-of-29) in the first half. Augsburg led 42-28 at halftime.
Jaime Kingsley (Sr., Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) had nine points and five rebounds for the Auggies, while
Allison Illa (Jr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) and
Julie Andert (Fr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) had eight points apiece. Illa led the Auggies with six rebounds.
Emily Koller (So., Greybull, Wyo.) led the Scots with 19 points and five rebounds. Afton Hanson (Fr., Karlstad, Minn./Tri-County HS) and Allison Bell-Bern (Jr., Madison, Wis./East HS) had eight points apiece.
Augsburg and Macalester return to MIAC action on Saturday (1/6/01) at 3 p.m., Augsburg hosting St. Mary's at Si Melby Hall and Macalester playing at St. Olaf.
