MINNEAPOLIS (1/4/01) --
Brenda Selander (Sr., Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) and
Amber Nadreau (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Christian HS) scored two goals apiece, and
April Leger (Jr., Austin, Minn.) had a four-point night, leading Augsburg College to a 10-1 victory over St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Thursday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Augsburg improves to 3-6-0 overall and 3-4 in MIAC play with the win, breaking a two-game losing streak. St. Olaf drops to 1-9-0 overall and 1-5 in MIAC play.
After allowing Oles to score first just a minute into the game, Augsburg dominated the rest of the game, outshooting the Oles by a 48-4 margin and keeping the puck in the St. Olaf defensive end most of the game. Amanda Chumbley (So., Menomonee Falls, Wis.) made 38 saves in goal for the Oles.
The Auggies spread the scoring around in the easy victory, as eight different Auggies scored goals and 12 different players recorded either a goal or an assist in the game. Leger notched a goal and three assists for her four-point night.
Angie Rieger (Sr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm Public HS) had a goal and two assists for a three-point night.
Five Auggies had two-point nights -- Selander and Nadreau had two goals each;
Anne Osberg (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS),
Dottie Gilkerson (Fr., Somerset, Wis.) and Christian Hughes (Fr., Chaska, Minn.) had a goal and an assist each; and
Carrie McCarville (Sr., Hopkins, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret HS) had two assists.
Laura McGowan (Jr., Fridley, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) had the other Auggie goal in the game.
Jennie Pinkerton (Fr., Minot, N.D.) had the lone Ole goal in the game, at 1:47 of the first period, on an assist from Angela Fjerstad (So., Rochester, Minn.)
The two teams conclude their two-game MIAC series on Saturday night (1/6) at 7 p.m. at the Northfield (Minn.) Ice Arena.
