Men's Hockey 1/6/01 -- Augsburg 4, St. Norbert 4 (OT)
MINNEAPOLIS (1/6/01) --
Tim Olsen (Fr., Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) tied the game with 1:23 remaining in the third period, lifting Augsburg College to a 4-4 overtime tie with St. Norbert College in a nonconference men's hockey game Saturday night at Augsburg Ice Arena.
The Auggies led 2-0 after one period, but had to rally from a 4-3 deficit to claim the tie and move to 5-7-1 overall. St. Norbert moves to 9-4-2 overall.
Shawn Carney (Jr., Internatinal Falls, Minn.) scored his first two goals of the season in the first period to give the Auggies the early lead. But St. Norbert outscored the Auggies 3-1 in the second frame, including two goals from Chris Bodnar (Jr., Thunder Bay, Ontario), to tie the game at 3-3 entering the third period.
Faron Duthie (Fr., Strathmore, Alberta) put the puck in the net for the Green Knights at the 15:34 mark to give SNC a 4-3 lead, but three minutes later, Olsen tied the game for the Auggies.
St. Norbert outshot Augsburg 3-0 in overtime and claimed a 33-28 shots-on-goal advantage in the game. Both teams also had two shots hit the post each in the game.
St. Norbert's Maris Ziedins (So., Talsi, Latvia) and Augsburg's
Andy Ness (Sr., North St. Paul, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) had the other goals in the game.
Ryan McIntosh (Sr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) came up with 29 saves to notch the tie in goal for the Auggies, while Chancy Colquhoun (Fr., Ottawa, Ontario) made 24 saves for the Green Knights. Colquhoun was lifted for a substitute midway through the first period after the Auggies scored two goals, but was re-inserted in goal two minutes later.
Augsburg finished 3-3-1 in games against Northern Collegiate Hockey Association foes this season, while St. Norbert finished 5-1-2 against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes. It was the final "interlocking" nonconference game for both teams. Augsburg returns to MIAC play with a two-game series against Gustavus Adolphus. Friday night's (1/12) game is at Augsburg Ice Arena at 7 p.m., while Saturday night's (1/13) game is at Gustavus' Lund Arena at 7 p.m.
