Men's Soccer 10/13/01 -- Gustavus 3, Augsburg 2
ST. PETER, Minn. (10/13/01) --
Clarke Athman (Fr., St. Joseph, Minn./Athman Home School) scored two goals in a six-minute span to tie the game midway through the second half, but Eric Carl's unassisted goal with just under 20 minutes remaining gave host Gustavus Adolphus College a 3-2 win over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer game on Saturday.
Gustavus outshot Augsburg by a 17-6 margin to improve to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the MIAC. Augsburg dropped to 3-7-1 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
Ryan Kath and Ryan Kaufman scored in the first half to give Gustavus a 2-0 lead, before Athman tied the game with goals in the 54th and 60th minutes.
Ros Smith made three saves to pick up the win for Gustavus.
Gustavus returns to MIAC action on Wednesday (10/17) with a game at Bethel. Augsburg returns to action on Thursday (10/18) with a rescheduled nonconference game at Wisconsin-Superior. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
