Men's Soccer 10/18/01 -- Augsburg 5, Wisconsin-Superior 0
SUPERIOR, Wis. (10/18/01) --
Clarke Athman (Fr., St. Joseph, Minn./Athman Home School) and
Matt Lachner (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) had a goal and assist apiece, leading Augsburg College to a 5-0 win over the University of Wisconsin-Superior in a nonference men's soccer game on Thursday.
Augsburg outshot Wisconsin-Superior by a 28-13 margin to improve to 4-7-1 overall. The Yellowjackets dropped to 2-11 overall.
Athman opened the game with a unassisted goal in the fourth minute.
Jason Clark (So., Eagan, Minn.) scored on a penalty kick in the 34th minute. Augsburg scored three goals in a 16-minute span in the second half --
Hugo Quintiliano (Jr., Brasilia, Brazil/Mound-Westonka, Minn., HS) on an assist from Athman;
Corey Luckow (So., Watertown, S.D.) on an assist from Lachner; and Lachner on an assist from
Dan Walker (Sr., Glenwood, Minn./Minnewaska HS).
Augsburg also benefitted from five cards -- four yellow and one red -- given to Wisconsin-Superior players.
Augsburg goalkeepers had to make just seven saves, with all three keepers seeing action. Brian Johnson made nine goals in a losing effort for Wisconsin-Superior.
Augsburg returns to action on Thursday (10/25) with a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at St. Olaf. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
