Men's Soccer 10/3/01 -- Carleton 7, Augsburg 1
MINNEAPOLIS (10/3/01) -- Coming off the bench, Dakota Loomis (Sr., Lawrence, Kan.) scored a three-goal hat trick, leading Carleton College's offensive barrage in a 7-1 blowout win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer game Wednesday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

Loomis scored the first goal of the game on a drive off a corner kick from Andy Indresano (So., Grafton, Wis./Marquette HS), then added another tally on an easy 20-yard shot off a pass from Jason Richardson (Sr., Boise, Idaho/Eagle HS) in the 41st minute. His hat trick came after being open in front after a pretty weave from Jeremy Schultz (So., Walton, Neb./Waverly HS) in the 55th minute.

Along the way, Carleton peppered Augsburg, claiming 24 shots to Augsburg's 18 -- though many of Augsburg's shots came in the latter stages of the blowout. Carleton improved to 4-3-2 overall and 1-3-0 in the MIAC, breaking a four-game winless streak in the process. Augsburg lost its fifth game in a row to fall to 2-5-1 overall, 0-4-0 in league play.

Schultz notched a goal on a solid weave and blast from 15 yards out in the 40th minute, just 1:10 before Loomis' second scoring tally. Niles McDonough (So., Wichita, Kan./East HS) had the most dramatic goal of the night, on a diving header to the left side off a corner kick from Indresano in the 61st minute.

The Knights added two goals in the closing four minutes, one on a Yemi Adegunju (Fr., Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey Collegiate HS) rebound after a Pat Berry shot hit the crossbar, and the other on a wide-open shot from Andrew Huffer (Fr., Boulder, Colo.) from Adegunju.

Augsburg's lone goal came in the 64th minute, when Clarke Athman (Fr., St. Joseph, Minn./Athman Home School) scored on a feed from Andrew Robertson (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.).

Carleton used three goalkeepers in the game, with Ehren Reilly (Sr., Berkley, Calif.) making eight saves, Andy Cave (So., Portland, Ore./Lincoln HS) making one save and Xander Meadow (Jr., Chicago, Ill./University Lab HS) making three saves. Nick Shill (So., Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire North HS) and Han Zeller (So., Winona, Minn.) split time in goal for the Auggies

Augsburg returns to MIAC play with a game at Macalester on Friday (10/5) at 7:30 p.m. The game is a rescheduled affair from a postponement on Sept. 13. Carleton returns to action on Saturday (10/6), hosting St. John's at 1 p.m.
