MINNEAPOLIS (10/9/01) --
Steve Gehrman (So., Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) scored on an assist from
Mike Elcano (Fr., Sparks, Nev./Bishop Manogue HS) in the 65th minute Tuesday, the only goal Augsburg College would need in a 1-0 win over Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer game Tuesday night at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.
Gehrman scored on a one-touch shot on a crossing feed from 15 yards out from Elcano in the second half, enabling Augsburg to break a six-game losing streak and improve to 3-6-1 overall and 1-5 in the MIAC. Hamline dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-4 in the MIAC.
Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 10-4 margin.
Nick Shill (So., Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire North HS) made all four saves in notching his first shutout of the season. Craig Brandy (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) made six saves in a losing effort.
Both teams return to MIAC play on Saturday (10/13) at 1 p.m., Augsburg playing at Gustavus and Hamline hosting Bethel.
