Findlay shuts out Augsburg 8-0 in Auggie season opener.

FINDLAY, Ohio (11/2/01) -- The University of Findlay women's hockey team got back on its winning ways Friday night with an 8-0 nonconference win over visiting Augsburg College at the Clauss Ice Arena. The Division I Oilers improved to 2-5 overall and, in the process, snapped a five-game losing streak. Division III Augsburg starts its season 0-1.

The Oilers wasted little time in getting on the board, just 4:48 into the first period. Jenn Jessop scored her first collegiate goal, with assists fro Abbey Strong and Tracey Lowell, to give Findlay a 1-0 lead.

The Oilers would tack on two more goals before the first period ended. Freshman sensation Heidi Tallqvist scored her sixth goal of the season at the 13:05 mark, followed by a tally from fellow-rookie Tanya Truszkowski at 16:54. It was Truszkowski's second goal of the season.

Tallqvist scored her second goal of the night and seventh of the season to give the Oilers a 4-0 lead, 5:14 into the second stanza. Chantelle Russell would follow with her first goal of the season at 18:32, to give Findlay a commanding 5-0 lead after 40 minutes.

The Oilers, however, were not done. Findlay would add on three more goals in the third period to come away with the 8-0 win. Jessop scored her second goal of the night at 3:12. Stasia Bakhit scored her second goal of the season, and Monell Schroeder would cap off the scoring at 17:43. It was Schroeder's second tally of the season.

Bakhit led the Oilers with a goal and three assists. Tallqvist and Jessop had a pair of goals and an assist apiece, while Truszkowski had a goal and two assists to lead the Oilers' offensive attack.

Freshman Amy Jones made her second career start and picked up her second career shutout by stopping six Augsburg shots. Katie Fedoryk () was peppered all night and made 55 saves in defeat. The Oilers outshot the Auggies 63-6 in the game, including a 30-0 advantage in the third period.

The same two teams will play again at the Clauss Ice Arena at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
