BOXSCORE
MINNEAPOLIS (11/20/01) -- Amy Kachinske (Fr., Hermantown, Minn.) and Melanie Salatino (Fr., Thunder Bay, Ontario) scored two goals apiece, as the University of Wisconsin-Superior rallied for a 4-2 win over host Augsburg College in a nonconference women's hockey game Tuesday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
The Yellowjackets, ranked No. 5 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online Division III national poll, had to rally from a 2-1 deficit entering the third period with three goals, improving to 6-1 overall. Augsburg drops to 2-5 overall.
Kachinske opened the scoring with her first goal at the 3:02 mark of the first period, on an assist from Jodi Faye (Sr., Toronto, Ontario) -- one of three assists she would have on the evening.
But the Auggies rallied back with a power-play goal from
Kristi Brusletto (Sr., Basalt, Colo.) with six seconds remaining in the first period, then took the lead on a goal from
Dottie Gilkerson (Fr., Somerset, Wis.) with 1:57 left in the second period.
However, three goals from the Yellowjackets took care of Augsburg's hopes for the upset. Faye and Kachinske hooked up for another goal on the power play at the 5:27 mark, and Salatino, Superior's leading scorer and the leading goal-scorer in the nation among Division III women's players, scored two goals in a six-minute span, giving her 14 markers on the season and a nation-high 19 total points.
Superior outshot Augsburg by a 37-21 margin, holding a 25-9 edge after two periods. Kelly Timm (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) made 19 saves to score the win for Superior, while
Katie Fedoryk (So., Austin, Minn.) had 33 saves in a losing effort for Augsburg, the fourth time she has had 30 or more saves in a game in her seven starts this season.
