Women's Basketball 11/27/01 -- Northwestern-Roseville 66, Augsburg 54

ROSEVILLE, Minn. (11/27/01) -- Tera Ellefson (Jr., Mitchell, S.D.) and Jessica DeMars (Jr., McGregor, Minn.) each had double-doubles, leading Northwestern College-Roseville in a second-half comeback, claiming a 66-54 win over visiting Augsburg College in a nonconference women's basketball game Tuesday night at the Ericksen Center.
Ellefson scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while DeMars had 14 points and 11 rebounds, as the host Eagles improved to 6-2 overall. Augsburg dropped to 1-2 overall with the loss.
Augsburg led at halftime, 29-28, after leading by as many as seven points on two occasions in the first half. But a 21-9 run in the first nine minutes of the second half gave Northwestern a lead it would not relinquish the rest of the way. Ellefson scored nine straight points for the Eagles in the scoring run, including a three-point play to give the Eagles a 49-38 lead with 10:52 left in the second half.
Northwestern led by as many as 14 points down the stretch, and the Auggies could close the deficit no closer than seven points after the 21-9 Northwestern run.
For the second straight game, Augsburg was hamstrung by poor shooting. The Auggies connected on just 52.4 percent of its free throws (11-of-21), including hitting just 9-of-19 free-throw attempts in the second half.
Augsburg was paced by
Kelly Chapman (So., Willernie, Minn./Mahtomedi HS), who scored a game-high 19 points and had a team-high nine rebounds.
Ashley Sasek (Fr., Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) had nine points,
Carrie Schwartz * (Sr., Hutchinson, Minn.) had eight points and
Allison Illa * (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) pulled down eight rebounds.
Amanda Haugen (Fr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had six points and six rebounds.
Tracy Grabowska (Sr., Hancock, Minn.) hscored 10 poins and had six assists and three steals, and Renee DeMars (Sr., McGregor, Minn.) had nine opints and four steals. Sara Tonneson (So., Souris, N.D.) scored eight points.
Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday (11/28) with a 7:30 p.m. game at the University of St. Thomas. Northwestern plays at NCAA Division II Minnesota-Morris on Thursday (11/29) at 7 p.m.
