BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS (11/9/01) -- Jackie Schmitt (Fr., Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling HS) scored two goals and had three assists, while Emily Teachout (Fr., Edina, Minn.) had two goals and two assists, leading Wisconsin-Stevens Point to a 6-1, come-from-behind win over Augsburg College in a nonconference women's hockey game Friday night at Augsburg Ice Arena.

After giving up the first goal, the Pointers shut the doors on the hosts, notching 54 shots to Augsburg's 27 in improving to 4-0 overall. Augsburg remains winless in three starts, though Friday's game was the first against an NCAA Division III opponent this year. Wisconsin-Stevens Point, a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association team, has scored all four of its wins against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents so far.

The Pointers, dressing 14 freshmen and six sophomores, gained each goal and all but one of their assists from freshmen. Ann Ninnemann (Fr., Rosemount, Minn.) tied the game for the Pointers late in the first period, and Schmitt gained both her goals in a seven-minute span of the second period, including one on a rare penalty shot at the 18:18 mark.

Kim Lunneborg (Fr., Richfield, Minn.) scored early in the third period for the Ppointers, and the cappers came on two goals from Teachout, including one on the power play.

Stevens Point went 2-for-4 in its power-play attempts, while Augsburg managed its lone goal on a power play tally, one of six power plays in the game.

Augsburg's lone goal came early, when Rachel Leger (Sr., Austin, Minn.) scored on assists from Laura Prasek (Fr., Fridley, Minn.) and Laura McGowan (Sr., Fridley, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS). It was the first goal of the season for the Auggies, after being shut out twice (8-0 and 11-0) by Findlay (Ohio) last weekend.

Katie Fedoryk (So., Austin, Minn.) made 48 saves for the Auggies, while Shannon Kasparek (Fr., South Lyon, Mich.) made 26 saves for the Pointers.

Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (11/10), travelling to face another NCHA opponent, Wisconsin-River Falls, at 2 p.m. Stevens Point travels to St. Peter, Minn., to face another MIAC foe in Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, also at 2 p.m.
