St. Thomas claims shutout over Augsburg in series opener.

MINNEAPOLIS (12/7/01) -- Behind two goals and an assist from Tomery Stolz (So., St. Louis Park, Minn.), the University of St. Thomas shut out visiting Augsburg College 4-0 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Friday night at Parade Ice Arena.

The Tommies won their fourth game in a row and climbed to 3-1-1 in the MIAC and 4-3-1 overall. Augsburg dropped to 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference, losing its fifth game in a row.

Stolz scored the game's opening and closing goals. She scored at the 11:50 mark of the first period, on an assist from Jordan Benson (So., Coon Rapids, Minn.). Stolz assisted on the second goal of the game, a power-play tally from Tiff Petermeier (Fr., Grand Rapids, Minn.), at the 14:22 mark of the first period.

Nicki Magill (So., Lake Elmo, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) notched a goal for the Tommies at the 3:16 mark of the second period, on an assist from Jessica Christopherson (So., Coon Rapids, Minn.). Stolz closed the scoring on a goal with 40 seconds left in the third period, on assists from Katie Moore (So., Hudson, Wis.) and Kara Trygestad (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Edison HS).

The Tommies dominated play in the game, outshooting Augsburg by a 55-19 margin. Danielle Mikolai (So., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) claimed her second consecutive shutout in goal for the Tommies, stopping all 19 shots she faced.

Katie Fedoryk (So., Austin, Minn.) continued to face a lot of shots in net for the Auggies, as she had to make 51 stops. It is the sixth time she has had to make 30 or more saves in a game in her 10 game appearances this season, and her second 50-plus save game of the year.
