Auggies drop sixth straight, fall at Hamline 65-62.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (12/8/01) -- Katie Jensen scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half, as host Hamline University outscored Augsburg 37-32 in the half, en route to a come-from-behind, 65-62 win over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena.

Augsburg dropped its sixth game in a row in falling to 1-6 overall, 0-4 in MIAC play. Hamline improved to 1-5 overall, 1-3 in the MIAC.

The Auggies scored the first 10 points of the game to build a commanding first-half lead, behind four points each from Kelly Chapman (So., Willernie, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) and Rowena Sizer * (Sr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS). But the Pipers rallied back to eventually tie the game at 16-16, and the teams traded leads four times before halftime, with Augsburg leading 30-28 at the break.

Augsburg broke from the gates again to open the second half, using a 9-2 run to take a 39-30 lead, keyed on five points from Sizer and three from Chapman. But the Pipers chipped away at the Auggie advantage over an nine-minute stretch of the second half, eventually using a 14-2 run to take their biggest lead of the game, 60-54 with two minutes to play. Augsburg cut the lead back to two points with 31 seconds left, but could not get a game-tying basket on its final possession.

Jessica Barrett had five of her team-leading 17 points in the decisive 14-2 run for the Pipers, while Jensen had four points in the run.

Chapman led the scoring for the Auggies with 20 points, the second time she's had a 20-point game this season and third time in her career. She added four rebounds, two steals and two assists. Sizer had 11 points before fouling out with two minutes remaining.

Ashley Sasek (Fr., Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) scored nine points and had four assists and two steals, and Carrie Schwartz * (Sr., Hutchinson, Minn.) had eight points and four assists. Allison Illa * (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) led the Auggies in rebounds, with 10.

Stacey Thill scored 13 points and had seven rebounds for Hamline, while Jensen had eight rebounds and five steals to go with her 15 points. Sarah Wishard scored eight points.

Augsburg returns to action on Monday (12/10) at 7:30 p.m. hosting St. Olaf at Si Melby Hall. Hamline returns to action on Tuesday (12/11), hosting Northwestern-Roseville in a nonconference game at 7:30 p.m.
