Men's Hockey 2/10/01 -- Augsburg 10, St. Olaf 0
MINNEAPOLIS (2/10/01) --
Nick Murray (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had a five-point night Saturday, one of four Augsburg College players to score two goals, as the Auggies cruised to a 10-0 victory over St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Eleven Auggies figured in the scoring and the Auggies converted on four of seven power-play opportunities. The Auggies added a shorthanded goal and a 4-on-4 tally. Augsburg claimed the series split with the Oles and improved to 11-10-2 overall and 8-5-1 in the MIAC. St. Olaf dropped to 8-14-1 overall and 4-9-1 in league play.
The Auggies outshot the Oles by a 50-21 margin in the contest. Augsburg's
Ryan McIntosh (Sr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) stopped all 21 Ole shots he faced to claim his first shutout win of the season and the fifth of his career.
Augsburg controlled the action in the game from the opening faceoff, as the Auggies scored two goals before the game was two minutes old.
Tim Olsen (Fr., Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and
Brad Holzinger (So., North Oaks, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) scored goals in the opening moments, Olsen's at the 39-second mark and Holzinger's at the 1:27 mark. Both scored power-play goals in the third period for their second goals of the game each to complete the Auggie scoring.
Murray had two goals and three assists, and Olsen and Holzinger joined
Mike Jackson (Sr., Ramsey, Minn./Elk River HS) with three-point nights, each tallying two goals and one assist.
Joe Johnson (Jr., Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) also had a three-point night, with a goal and two assists,
Joe Pontrelli (Fr., Eagan, Minn.) had a goal and assist and
Andy Ness (Sr., North St. Paul, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) contributed four assists. Andy Shermoen (Sr., International Falls, Minn.) had two assists.
Jake Bullard (So., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) made 40 saves for the Oles.
Augsburg closes out the regular season with a two-game series against Bethel. Friday's (2/16) game is at Columbia Ice Arena in Fridley, Minn., and Saturday's (2/17) game is at the Augsburg Ice Arena. Both games are at 7 p.m. St. Olaf closes its season with a two-game series against St. John's. Friday's game is at 7 p.m. at the Northfield Ice Arena, and Saturday's game is at 7 p.m. at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
