STORY FROM BETHEL COLLEGE SPORTS INFORMATION
FRIDLEY, Minn. (2/16/01) -- Bethel College's men's hockey team jumped to a 3-1 first period lead and didn't let up as the Royals took the first game in the weekend series with Augsburg College, winning 7-3. The winner of this weekend's series gains the final seed in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason playoffs, beginning next week.
Bethel was led by freshman Chris Carroll (Fr., Roseville, Minn.) with one goal and two assists. Junior Chad Anderson (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) added two goals for the Royals.
Tim Olsen (Fr., Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS),
Mike Jackson (Sr., Ramsey, Minn./Elk River HS) and
Andy Ness (Sr., North St. Paul, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) had Augsburg's goals.
The Auggies outshot the Royals 50 to 33, yet Bethel freshman goaltender Steve Witkowski (Fr., Blaine, Minn.) turned away a season-high 47 shots.
