Angie Rieger named MIAC Co-Player of the Year for second year in a row; Rieger and Brusletto earn All-MIAC honors!

MINNEAPOLIS (3/1/01) -- Augsburg College women's hockey forward Angie Rieger (Sr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm Public HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Hockey Player of the Year for the second time, while she and teammate Kristi Brusletto (Jr., Basalt, Colo.) earned All-MIAC honors, on a vote of conference coaches this week.

Rieger shared this year's MIAC Player of the Year honors with St. Mary's freshman forward Tennie McCabe, who led the conference in scoring (37 points in conference games).

A three-time All-American in women's hockey, Rieger led the Auggies in scoring (21 goals, 16 assists, 37 points), including 28 points (15 goals, 13 assists) in conference play. She also led the team with five power-play goals and five game-winning goals.

Rieger ended her career holding virtually every school scoring record. In 91 career games (both varsity and non-varsity opponents), Rieger scored 70 goals and had 56 assists for 126 points, including 12 power-play goals, four shorthanded goals, 17 game-winning goals and five hat tricks. Against varsity opponents (81 games) in her career, Rieger compiled school records of 68 goals and 52 assists for 120 points. Last year, in earning MIAC Player of the Year honors for the first time, Rieger set single-season school records of 27 goals and 26 assists for 53 points, leading the Auggies in their run to an MIAC championship and Division III national second-place finish.

The All-MIAC honor this season was Brusletto's first. A steady presence on defense for the Auggies, Brusletto was second among Auggie defenders in scoring (three goals, six assists, nine points). She had two power-play goals and one game-winner. In her three-year career (68 games), she has seven goals and 21 assists for 28 points.

Augsburg finished its women's hockey season with a 12-11-0 overall record and 9-9 mark in MIAC play. It was Augsburg's third winning season in a row and fifth in the six years of varsity play.
