Women's Soccer 9/11/01 -- Augsburg 6, Wisconsin-Superior 0
SUPERIOR, Wis. (9/11/01) --
Heidi Hilleren (So., Duluth, Minn./East HS) and
Jazz Burch (So., Minnetonka, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) scored two goals apiece to lead the Augsburg College women's soccer team to a 6-0 shutout win over the University of Wisconsin-Superior in a nonconference game Tuesday afternoon at Gates Field.
Kristi Ofstad (So., Rapid City, S.D./Stevens HS) and
Carrie Velenchenko (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) had the other Auggie goals in the contest, as the Auggies improved to 2-2 overall with their second straight shutout victory. Wisconsin-Superior drops to 0-2 overall.
Augsburg outshot the Yellowjackets by a 33-2 margin and had eight corner kicks to Superior's one.
Hilleren scored two goals in the first 22 minutes of the first half, and Burch notched scoring tallies in the 45th minute and 88th minute. Burch now leads the team with three goals, this season, while Hilleren scored her first two goals of the season in Tuesday's win.
Superior goalkeeper Ashley Nicholls made 22 saves;
Laura Hoffman (So., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) made two saves in 67 minutes for the Auggies, with
Sarah Sletten (So., Church's Ferry, N.D./Devils Lake HS) finishing the game in goal.
Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play hosting Macalester College on Friday (9/14) at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field. Wisconsin-Superior returns to action on Wednesday (9/12), hosting the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) at 4 p.m.
