Women's Soccer 9/26/01 -- Augsburg 1, Concordia-Moorhead 0 (OT)
MINNEAPOLIS (9/26/01) --
Kim Glumich (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) blasted home a loose ball in front of the net in the third minute of overtime Wednesday night, lifting Augsburg College to a 1-0 overtime win over Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.
The game-winning play was set up off of a
Heidi Hilleren (So., Duluth, Minn./East HS) corner kick, which was received by
Kristen Lideen * (So., Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS). Lideen fired a shot, but it was deflected in front. Glumich found the loose ball about six yards away and put home the game-winner.
Augsburg picked up its first MIAC victory of the season, improving to 3-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in league play. Concordia drops to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the MIAC.
The Auggies outshot the Cobbers by a 25-7 margin, dominating play in the first half with a 17-2 shots edge. But the Auggies could not deliver a goal, despite having three corner kicks in regulation play, and the game went to overtime scoreless. It was the second time this season Augsburg has played a scoreless regulation game; the other, against St. Mary's on Sept. 18, ended a 0-0, two-overtime tie.
Kathy Braun (Sr., Willmar, Minn.) made nine saves in a losing effort for the Cobbers. Auggie goalkeeper
Laura Hoffman (So., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) made three saves to pick up the win.
Both teams return to action on Saturday (9/29). Augsburg hosts Northland Baptist Bible College (Wis.) in a nonconference game at 1 p.m. at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn., while Concordia hosts St. Olaf in an MIAC contest at 2 p.m.
