EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (9/28-29/01) -- Laura Wagner (Fr., West Bend, Wis./West Bend West HS) collected 44 kills and 13 blocks (two solo) to lead the Augsburg College volleyball in its matches at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Lisa Siegenthaler Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday at the McPhee Phy Ed Center.

Augsburg went 1-3 in the tournament. The Auggies opened the tournament with a five-game loss to Lakehead University (Ontario) on Friday, 19-30, 31-29, 27-30, 30-18, 15-6. According to NCAA rules concerning competition against Canadian opponents, records and statistics from the match do not count and the match is treated as an exhibition. Also on Friday, the Auggies were swept by host Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 30-27, 30-20, 30-21. On Saturday, Augsburg opened the day with a four-game loss to Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 30-20, 30-26, 27-30, 30-28, before topping Wisconsin-Superior 30-28, 31-29, 25-30, 26-30, 15-12.

Wagner's kill and block totals, covering the three matches that count in team statistics, were team highs. She added 24 digs and three service aces.

Amy Degner (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins HS) led the Auggies with 44 digs, eight service aces and 108 assists, adding seven blocks (two solo) and 12 kills. Denise Foster (Jr., Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) had 39 kills, five blocks (one solo) and 28 digs) on the weekend, while Kristy Larson (Fr., Pine Island, Minn.) contributed 28 kills and seven blocks (two solo). Paula Pogatchnik (Jr., Finlayson, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) had 25 kills, 19 digs and six service aces.

Augsburg played most of the tournament, including both matches on Saturday, without team-leading middle hitter Lisa Miller (Jr., Buffalo, Minn.), who suffered a foot injury on Friday.

Foster led the Auggies with 12 kills and two blocks, while Wagner had 11 kills and three blocks in the loss to Eau Claire. Degner had 37 assists and 19 digs in the loss to Stevens Point, with Wagner netting 15 kills and Foster and Pogatchnik adding 11 apiece.

The win over Superior was highlighted by a near-triple-double for Degner, who had 47 assists, 11 digs and seven kills. Wagner had 18 kills in the win, the second-most in a single match for an Auggie this season. Foster added 16 kills, Larson had 15 and Pogatchnik had 11.

Augsburg, now 6-10 overall, returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a match Wednesday (10/3) night at 7:30 p.m. at the College of St. Benedict.
