Bethel shocks Augsburg with 2-1 overtime victory at Augsburg.

MINNEAPOLIS (1/11/02) -- Kim Toter (Fr., Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South HS) scored on a deflection one minute, 45 seconds into overtime Friday night, giving Bethel College a 2-1 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Toter's goal gave Bethel its first-ever win over Augsburg in the teams' fifth meeting. Bethel is now 2-8-2 overall and 1-6-1 in MIAC play, while Augsburg drops to 2-9-2 overall and 1-5-1 in MIAC play.

Toter scored on assists from Emily Louwsma (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Marissa Cwik (Fr., Chicago, Ill./Fenwick HS).

The teams traded goals in the final four minutes of regulation to force overtime, Augsburg's third overtime game in a row. Bethel took a 1-0 lead with 3:57 left in the third period, when Alyson Sundberg (Jr., St. Paul, Minn./Roseville HS).

However, Augsburg tied the game with 32 seconds left in regulation, pulling the goalie and playing with an extra skater. Lauren Chezick (Fr., Hastings, Minn.) scored on an assist from Melynda Kleewein (Fr., Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond HS).

Bethel dominated the game in the first two periods, outshooting the Auggies by a 30-13 mark. But the Auggies came back, outshooting the Royals 7-4 in the third period. Both goalies were up to the task, as Katie Fedoryk (So., Austin, Minn.) made 34 saves in the game for the Auggies, while Patti Schaller (Fr., Sebring, Fla.) made 19 saves for the Royals.

The teams conclude their MIAC series on Saturday (1/12) at 3:30 p.m. at Bethel's home rink, the Columbia Ice Arena in Fridley, Minn.
