MINNEAPOLIS (1/25/02) -- Christine Kleven (Sr., Red Lake Falls, Minn.) scored two goals, and the line of Lindsay Kurtis (So., Phoenix, Ariz.), Katie Jacques (Jr., Tempe, Ariz.) and Annie Knierim (Jr., Glasgow, Mont.) accounted for three goals, as Concordia College-Moorhead cruised to a 6-1 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Concordia improved to 11-2-1 overall and 10-2-1 in MIAC play. The Cobbers have won their last four games in a row. Augsburg broke a three-game winning streak to fall to to 5-10-2 overall and 4-6-1 in MIAC play.
Kleven scored two second-period goals as the Cobbers broke a scoreless tie with three goals in the second period and three goals in the third. Knierim, Kurtis and Jacques, who have combined for 39 of the Cobbers' 53 goals this season, each had a goal and an assist in the game. Jenai Estrada (So., Moreno Valley, Calif.) had the other Cobber goal.
Augsburg's lone goal came on a power-play tally from
Jenny Martin (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) midway through the third period.
The game was a physical one, as the teams combined for 15 penalties for 30 minutes. Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 34-25 margin, but Shyla Wilson (Jr., Cohasset, Minn.) came up big in goal for the Cobbers, making 28 saves in 56 minutes of action. Jamie Savage (Fr., Apple Valley, Minn.) finished the game for the Cobbers with five saves.
Katie Fedoryk (So., Austin, Minn.) made 17 saves for the Auggies, with
Kristin Johnson (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn./Wayzata HS) making two saves in a relief effort.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/26) at 2:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
