Women's Basketball 1/26/02 -- Hamline 60, Augsburg 46

MINNEAPOLIS (1/26/02) -- Katie Jensen (Sr., Hutchinson, Minn.) scored 16 points and had five steals, seven rebounds and four assists, leading Hamline University to a 60-46 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
Hamline improved to 3-15 overall and 3-12 in MIAC play. Two of its three wins this season have been against Augsburg. Augsburg dropped to 6-12 overall and 5-10 in MIAC play.
Augsburg scored the first five points of the game, but after that, it was all Hamline. The Pipers used a 23-4 run to take a 23-9 advantage with 8:18 left in the first half, and the Pipers stretched the lead to as many as 22 points in the second stanza.
Hamline took advantage of a poor shooting night by the Auggies, as Augsburg converted just 28.8 percent of its field goals (17-of-59). Hamline outrebounded Augsburg by a 49-38 margin, and converted 23 points off of turnovers.
Stacey Thill (Sr., Parkville, Mo./Park Hill HS) scored 13 points and had eight rebounds, while Nina Boyd (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) had nine points. Sarah Wishard (Sr., Somerset, Wis.) had four points, four steals and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Kelly Chapman (So., Willernie, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) was the lone Auggie in double figures, with 11 points and five rebounds.
Allison Illa * (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) had eight points and four rebounds, and
Shannon Spears (Jr., Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored eight points with three rebounds.
Both teams return to MIAC action on Monday (1/28) at 7:30 p.m., Augsburg playing at Macalester and Hamline playing at Carleton.
