Women's Basketball 1/05/02 -- St. Mary's 49, Augsburg 46

WINONA, Minn. (1/5/02) -- Jamie Rattunde (Rollingstone, Minn.) scored a game-high 13 points as the St. Mary's University women's basketball team rebounded from a 79-62 loss to St. Thomas last Wednesday with a 49-46 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Augsburg Saturday.
The Cardinals struggled from the field all afternoon, hitting just 31 percent of their shots -- including just 7-of-31 in the second half -- but still managed to pick up their fifth conference win in seven tries.
Beth Walch (Altura, Minn.) chipped in nine points for SMU, while Amy Burns (Winona, Minn.) and Colleen O'Hearn (Champlin, Minn.) each finished with eight.
Allison Illa * (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) scored 12 points and had seven rebounds, and
Julie Andert (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.) tallied 10 and had five rebounds in the losing effort for Augsburg (2-5 MIAC, 3-7 overall).
SMU held a one-point, 28-27, lead at halftime, then used a 21-19 scoring edge over the final 20 minutes to secure the win.
Both teams return to MIAC action on Monday (1/7) at 7:30 p.m., Augsburg hosting St. Catherine and St. Mary's playing at Hamline.
