MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/1/02) --
Garrett Robertson * (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) scored with 4:41 left in regulation, lifting Augsburg College to a 3-2 win over host Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer match Tuesday afternoon at Jake Christiansen Stadium.
Robertson's goal, his first of the season, came on assists from
Thomas Hennessy (Fr., Duluth, Minn./East HS) and
Aaron Riedel (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS). It broke a 2-2 tie that had lasted for most of the second half.
Augsburg, now 3-5-2 overall and 1-2-1 in MIAC play, broke a three-game winless streak and two-game losing streak. Concordia drops to 3-5-1 overall and 0-3 in MIAC play.
Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 27-14 margin, with Auggie goalie
Chad Clausen (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) making five saves to pick up the win. Kris Overby made 11 saves in a losing effort for Concordia.
Augsburg jumped out to an early 2-0 lead.
Hugo Quintiliano (Sr., Brasilia, Brazil/Mound-Westonka, Minn., HS) scored on an cross from
Mike Elcano (So., Sparks, Nev./Bishop Manogue HS) just 2:58 into the contest, with Elcano following 12 minutes later with an unassisted goal off a turnover in the penalty box.
Concordia tied the game with two goals straddling halftime. Nwachukwa Chukwuaola scored on a cross from Zach Eidenschink and Jason VanValkenburg just before halftime, and Andrew Purdy tied the game on dead-ball assists from VanValkenburg and Chukwualoa five minutes into the second half.
Augsburg returns to action on Sunday (10/6) with a 1 p.m. game at St. Thomas, while Concordia plays at St. Mary's on Saturday (10/5) at 2 p.m.
