BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS (10/15/02) -- Millie Suk (Fr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) and Tia Chronis (Fr., Braham, Minn.) scored two goals apiece, leading Augsburg College to its eighth win of the season, a 4-0 shutout of Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game Tuesday night at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

Suk scored twice in the first half and added an assist on the final goal to improve her team scoring highs to nine goals and 20 points this season. The goals for Chronis were her first two as a collegian.

With the win, Augsburg improved to 8-3-1 overall and 5-3-0 in the MIAC. All eight Augsburg wins have been shutouts. Augsburg has now won six of its last eight games, and with six games left to play, has now matched the team's win totals -- seven -- from each of the last two seasons. The Auggies have already secured the fourth-best season record in school history; the Auggies' school record is a 13-4 mark in 1995.

Hamline drops to 2-11 overall and 1-6 in the MIAC. The Pipers have now been shutout in its last five straight games, extending a scoreless string to 469 minutes covering six games.

Suk, who now has accounted for 64 percent of the Auggies' goals and 53 percent of Augsburg's points this season, is now tied for fifth place in single-season scoring in school history. The school record, 14, was set by Kristin Totushek in 1997.

Suk scored her first goal in the 17th minute, taking a serve to the lower-right side off a steal by Kristi Ofstad * (Jr., Rapid City, S.D./Stevens HS). Five mintues later, Chronis scored her first tally, as Maggie Dornfield (Fr., Woodbury, Minn.) popped a feed over a defender, finding Chronis in the middle to blast the ball in. Suk scored her second goal of the game in the 35th minute on a right-side feed from Eilidh Reyelts (Fr., Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall HS).

In the second half, Chronis scored her second goal of the game in the 82nd minute on a cross-field scoring play. Heidi Hilleren (Jr., Duluth, Minn./East HS) fed the ball to Suk with a solid downfield pass. Suk blasted the ball toward the net, and on the rebound, Chronis found an open net in the right corner.

Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 32-13 margin. Augsburg goalkeeper Laura Hoffman * (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) played the first 62 minutes, making five saves. Sarah Sletten (Jr., Churchs Ferry, N.D./Devils Lake HS) saw her first game action of the season, making four saves in 28 minutes of relief.

Melissa Cherry (Fr., Parker, Colo.) made 15 saves in 84 minutes for the Pipers, with Katie Blank (Fr., Edina, Minn.) playing the final six minutes in goal.

Augsburg returns to action with two games in North Carolina this weekend. Augsburg plays at Peace College on Friday (10/18) at 4 p.m. and at Meredith College on Sunday (10/20) at 12 noon. Both colleges are in Raleigh, N.C. Hamline hosts Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday (12/19) at 12 noon.
