BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS (10/26/02) -- Scott Storlie (Jr., St. Louis Park HS) recorded his first career hat trick, scoring three goals to lead Gustavus Adolphus College to a 5-2 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

Augsburg scored first, but Gustavus dominated the game from that point on, outshooting the Auggies 22-7 -- 10-1 in the first half -- to improve to 11-2-1 and 7-0 in the MIAC. Gustavus is the lone MIAC team without a loss or tie in league play this season. Augsburg drops to 4-9-2 overall and 1-6-1 in MIAC play, dropping its fourth game in its last five tries.

Augsburg's lone first-half shot was a goal, from Aaron Riedel (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS), who scored his sixth goal of the season a solid downfield feed from Steve Gehrmann * (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) in the ninth minute.

The Gusties scored the next four goals, including two from Storlie. He collected a rebound and blasted a left-foot shot to the lower left corner of the net in the 26th minute. Seven minutes later, Ryan Kaufman (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) scored on a rebound off a missed shot by Eric Carl (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.). Storlie scored his second goal of the game on a feed from a Adam McLeod Roth (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) free kick with 53 seconds left in the first half.

Nine minutes into the second half, Carl stole the ball and blasted it home to put the Gusties up 4-1. Mike Elcano (So., Sparks, Nev./Bishop Manogue HS) kept the Auggies close with his team-high 10th goal of the season, on an assist from Gehrmann in the 77th minute, but five minutes later, Storlie completed his hat trick by volleying the ball in the net on a cross from Aboma Merdasa (So., Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony HS).

Augsburg goalkeeper Chad Clausen (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) left the game in the 34th minute after an injury suffered in a collision; Han Zeller (Jr., Winona, Minn.) made four saves in relief. Andy Moulton (So., St. Peter, Minn.) started in goal for the Gusties and picked up the win in 66 minutes of work; Nate Hitch finished the game and made two saves.

Both teams have MIAC games on Tuesday (10/29), with Gustavus hosting Bethel at 2:30 p.m., and Augsburg hosting St. Olaf at 7:30 p.m.
