ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (10/30/02) -- Jill Thorvig and Angie Frenell had 13 kills apiece, leading Bethel College to a three-game sweep of Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Wednesday night at Bethel's Robertson Center.
Game scores were 30-19, 30-23, 30-20 in favor of the Royals, who improved to 19-7 overall and 9-2 in the MIAC. Augsburg drops to 2-22 overall and 1-9 in MIAC play, dropping its 12th match in a row.
Augsburg was limited to just a .050 hitting performance in the match, committing 29 attack errors compared to 35 kills.
Thorvig had six kills and hit .455 in the first game, while Frenell hit .750 with no errors (six kills in eight attacks) in the second game. Frenell had five kills, hitting .444, in the final game. Frenell hit .500 and added seven blocks (one solo), while Thorvig had nine digs.
As a team, Bethel had 10 team blocks in the match.
Lindsey Wanbaugh had six kills, 11 digs and three blocks (one solo) for the Royals, while Kimmie Moehring had eight kills, hitting .421, with two blocks. Kristin Stoneberg had 11 digs, and Katie Snyder had 32 assists.
Augsburg was paced by
Kristy Larson (So., Pine Island, Minn.), who had 10 kills and three digs.
Denise Foster (Sr., Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) had nine kills, and
Kelly Larvick (Sr. Good Thunder, Minn./Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial HS) and
Lisa Miller (Sr., Hanover, Minn./Buffalo HS) had five kills apiece. Larvick had 14 digs and two blocks.
Linnea Evans (Fr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had 11 digs.
Anna Piermantier (Jr., Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) compiled 33 assists.
Augsburg completes its season this weekend with matches at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Trick or Treat Tournament. On Friday (11/1), the Auggies face Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 2 p.m. and Wisconsin-Stout at 4 p.m. On Saturday (11/2), the Auggies face Wisconsin-Superior at 1:30 p.m. and Wisconsin-River Falls at 3:30 p.m.
