Men's Hockey 11/22/02 -- Concordia-Moorhead 6, Augsburg 4

MINNEAPOLIS (11/22/02) -- Robby Lundholm (So., Roseau, Minn.), Nate Ronning (So., Moorhead, Minn.) and Matt Hansen (So., Fargo, N.D./South HS) had a goal and assist apiece, and Treavor Peterson (Sr., Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) added three assists, as Concordia College-Moorhead claimed a 6-4 win over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

The Cobbers, ranked 10th in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online NCAA Division III national poll, improve to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in MIAC play, winning its fourth straight game. Augsburg breaks a four-game winning streak in falling to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the MIAC.

Concordia controlled the action for nearly the entire game, outshooting Augsburg 36-31, including a 15-6 edge in the first period. The Cobbers led 5-1 entering the third period, before the Auggies scored three goals in the final 7:28 to make the margin close. But the Cobbers added an empty-net goal in the final minute to clinch the win.

The teams complete their series on Saturday (11/23) at 7 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena. This is the last MIAC series before the holiday break for both teams.

Lundbohm scored his first goal of the season at the 3:46 mark of the first period with an unassisted tally.

Ronning opened the second period with a goal from Hansen, and after Augsburg cut into the lead on a Jaro Cesky (Sr., Prague, Czech Republic), the Cobbers scored three times to extend the lead, including two goals in the final 2:30 of the frame. Brice Berggren (Fr., Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) scored his first collegiate goal ath teh 5:07 mark, Andy Vix (Jr., Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) scored at the 17:30 mark and Mike Vlasak (Fr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) scored at the 19:02 mark.

Augsburg pulled back into the game in the closing minutes, as Brady Fougner (Fr., International Falls, Minn.) scored his first collegiate goal at the 12:32 mark, and Brad Bjorgum (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) scored at the 17:23 mark. Augsburg pulled the goalie and scored with the extra attacker, as Dave Nelson (Fr., Woodbury, Minn./South St. Paul HS) scored at the 18:34 marker. But Hansen closed the scoring for the Cobbers with an empty-net goal at the 18:52 mark to cap the win.

Cesky and Fougner had a goal and assist apiece for the Auggies, while Brad Schwartzbauer (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had two assists.

Tom Aulik (Fr., Elk River, Minn./Thief River Falls HS), one of the top freshmen goalies in the nation this season, made 27 saves to pick up the win for the Cobbers. Erik Young (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.), starting his third game for the Auggies, stopped 30 shots in a losing effort.
