Men's Hockey 11/23/02 -- Augsburg 5, Concordia-Moorhead 1

MINNEAPOLIS (11/23/02) --
Jaro Cesky (Sr., Prague, Czech Republic) and
Brad Schwartzbauer (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) each scored twice, leading Augsburg College to a 5-1 win over Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game Saturday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Cesky added two assists for a four-point night, while Schwartzbauer had one assist for a three-point evening, as the Auggies gained a split of the weekend series with the Cobbers. Concordia won 6-4 on Friday night. It is just the second time since the 1998-99 season (12 games) that one team has won by more than two goals in the series. Concordia has a 6-5-1 edge in those games.
Augsburg improved to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in MIAC play with the win, while Concordia, ranked 10th in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online NCAA Division III national poll, drops to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in MIAC play, breaking a four-game winning streak.
Cesky put the Auggies in front early, scoring 55 seconds into the game. On a five-minute power play,
Brad Holzinger (Sr., North Oaks, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) built the Auggie lead with a score at the 12:54 mark, and Cesky followed it up 1:29 later with his second goal of the game, also on the power play.
Augsburg outshot Concordia 20-5 in the first period, but the Cobbers returned the favor in the second, outshooting the Auggies 11-1. However, Concordia couldn't get a shot past Auggie goalie
Erik Young (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.), who ended the night with 32 saves.
Schwartzbauer scored both his goals in the third period, with a marker at the 4:56 mark and a breakaway goal from Cesky at the 14:58 mark.
Brady Fougner (Fr., International Falls, Minn.) added two assists on the night for the Auggies.
Concordia's lone goal came at the 12:51 mark of the third period, as Treavor Peterson (Sr., Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) scored on the power play from Steve Rosenfeldt (So., Moorhead, Minn.) and Andy Vix (Jr., Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS).
Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 36-33 margin, with Tom Aulik (Fr., Elk River, Minn./Thief River Falls HS) coming up with 31 saves for the Cobbers.
Augsburg returns to action on Tuesday (11/26) with a nonconference game at Wisconsin-Superior at 7 p.m. The Auggies are in action at the Air Force Academy (Colo.) Tournament on Dec. 6-7, while Concordia has nonconference games at Wisconsin-Superior on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. and at St. Scholastica (Minn.) on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.
